Greenville, Il — Greenville University is excited to bring the beloved classic Little Women by Kate Hamill to life on stage at The Factory Theatre. Directed by Rich Young, a former faculty member and Greenville community member, this production offers a fresh, modern adaptation of Louisa May Alcott’s iconic novel.
Little Women follows the March sisters—Jo, Meg, Beth, and Amy—as they navigate the challenges of growing up during the Civil War. Hamill’s version injects contemporary energy and wit into the story, while staying true to the novel’s themes of sisterhood, personal ambition, and societal expectations. Jo March, the independent and determined protagonist, strives to become a writer and break free from traditional gender roles, while her sisters pursue their own dreams and navigate complex relationships.
The play, known for its blend of humor and poignancy, examines the roles and expectations of women in both the 19th century and today, making it relatable for modern audiences.
