Greenville, Il -- As part of Greenville University’s Homecoming celebrations, we invite you to RISE UP for a powerful evening of worship on October 18 at 7 p.m. on Scott Field, right at the heart of our campus. This special GU Night of Worship is a free outdoor concert, open to all—community members, alumni, friends, students, faculty, and staff alike.
The headliner for this year’s event is none other than Lloyd Nicks, a 2014 graduate of GU’s music program and a member of the Kingly Common family. A St. Louis-based worship leader and songwriter, Nicks has been a prominent voice in Christian music, bridging the gap between Gospel, Contemporary Worship, and Pop. His music has uplifted many in the St. Louis area and beyond over the past several years.
Nicks' song, “That’s My King,” recorded by CeCe Winans, recently reached #1 on the Billboard charts and is nominated for a Dove Award for Gospel Worship Recorded Song of the Year. The Dove Awards, a celebration of Christian music’s finest, will take place on October 1st at Lipscomb University in Nashville, Tennessee.
RISE UP: GU Night of Worship presents an opportunity for our entire GU family to come together and express our deep gratitude to God for His ongoing work in and through Greenville University. As we look around campus, we are reminded that God is still "rolling stones," leading us forward; and clearing the path for renewal on campus and in our community.
Greenville University’s mission to empower students to live lives of character and service through a transformative, Christ-centered education provides the grounds for growth and flourishing of our students, faculty, staff and alumni, as well as in Greenville, IL and the greater Bond County community.
With God’s grace, we provide an environment where students grow academically and spiritually, enriched by cutting-edge technology and hands-on learning experiences. Our graduates leave GU not only with degrees but with a sense of purpose, ready to serve the world.
In the last five years alone, we’ve seen God's blessings poured out on our campus in new ways, from expanded academic offerings to exciting growth in student enrollment. Even as we celebrate these blessings, we know God has more in store for GU as we continue to “Rise Up” in faith and service through our ongoing campaign.
Lloyd Nicks embodies this spirit of faith, character and service, making him the perfect worship leader for this year’s RISE UP: GU Night of Worship. Reflecting on his own journey, Nicks has often shared how God has used even the most challenging parts of his life for His glory:
"I had to go through pain to see God get the glory for bringing me through it. His glory has to be greater than the pain. He’s taken the hurt, the messiness, and the realness of what life is," Nicks said in a previous interview with Greenville University.
Today, Nicks is focused on humility and transparency. “People see the glory—the lights and the stage—but they don’t see the pain that it took to get there, and they don’t see why I sing,” he added.
As we gather for RISE UP: GUNight of Worship, we will remember all God has done and reflect on what is yet to come. We invite you to join us in this night of praise, celebration, and thanksgiving as we worship God for His faithfulness to us and look forward to the future He has planned for GU.
