Dana Smith: A Guiding Influence as Area Coordinator

For Dana Smith '19, the start of the new school year isn't only about moving into a different space; it's also about embracing a new identity. Now in her role as an area coordinator, Dana not only manages but also mentors.

"As an area coordinator, I guide students in navigating their college experience and prepare them to influence their environments," she explains.

Last year, Dana was deeply rooted in the lives of students at Mannoia and Hood Hall as their residence life staff member. But this year, her influence spreads further, touching the lives of over 240 students at University Hall. In the day-to-day encounters with students, Dana truly makes her mark.

“My influence is measured not by my title but by the relationships I build and the day-to-day interactions I have with students,” she says.

Each conversation and shared moment becomes an opportunity for Dana to shape her students' character, support their personal growth, and encourage them to serve others. It’s in these informal, often spontaneous interactions that she finds the most meaning in her work.

"I see my position as an opportunity to shape students' character, support their personal growth, and encourage them to serve others," Dana reflects.

This role isn’t just a job for her; it’s a calling that goes beyond academics to nurture the whole person, equipping students with the values and skills they need to succeed and make a meaningful impact in the world
