Greenville University will soon welcome a new student whose journey to campus has been anything but ordinary. Shiloh Venable, a senior at Black Forest Academy in Germany, has set her sights on GU, drawn by its faith-centered community, strong financial aid opportunities, and welcoming atmosphere that feels like home, even from thousands of miles away.
DAUGHTER OF MISSIONARIES
Shiloh, the daughter of missionaries based in France, is no stranger to change. Having moved frequently, she has learned to adapt but also longs for stability. That’s part of what made Greenville University so appealing to her.
"I was looking for a college that had everything I wanted," Shiloh explained. "Someone recommended GU to me . . . When I looked into the scholarships, I saw that it was a great option for me."
The University’s commitment to faith and emphasis on a close-knit, spiritually engaged student body truly won her over. "It seemed like people were more involved in spiritual life [at GU] than at other colleges," she said. "It’s a priority here."
READY FOR THE COLLEGE STEP
Despite the distance from her family in France, Shiloh feels ready for this next step. She has older siblings and relatives in the U.S. and is already accustomed to living away from home while studying in Germany.
She plans to major in exercise science or kinesiology, fields that align with her passion for athletics. Although she played volleyball in high school, she must wait until next year to try out for GU’s team. In the meantime, she looks forward to joining the Outdoor Adventure Club, eager to explore the natural beauty of the Midwest.
ANNUAL SCHOLARSHIP DAY WINNER
A defining moment in her decision to attend GU was receiving a scholarship after participating virtually in the University’s Scholarship Day. She found that the interview process was welcoming and encouraging. "It didn’t feel intimidating at all," Shiloh shared. "It was just a conversation where I could be myself."
As she prepares to transition to life at Greenville University, Shiloh is excited about the opportunities ahead, especially the chance to engage in worship, Bible study groups, and chapel services. "I love that there are so many opportunities for fellowship," she said.
With a heart for adventure, a passion for faith, and a drive to succeed, Shiloh is ready to embrace the next chapter of her journey at Greenville University. And GU is prepared to welcome her with open arms.
