Greenville University’s men’s gymnastics team stepped onto one of collegiate athletics’ biggest stages this weekend, competing in the NCAA Championships in Champaign, Illinois. For a program only four years into its launch, the appearance alone marked another milestone in a season defined by steady growth, resilience, and belief in what this team is building together.
Facing a field that included nationally recognized programs such as Navy and Stanford, the Panthers entered the championship held at the State Farm Center in Champaign, Illinois, determined to demonstrate that their success this season was no accident.
The national meet featured 12 teams split into two sessions, with the top three teams from each advancing to the final round.
Greenville finished fifth in its session with a score of 307.059, placing the Panthers 10th overall in the national field.
While the team did not advance to the final round, the result represents the highest national finish in program history and the strongest showing yet for the young program.

Throughout the season, Head Coach Zach Peters has emphasized growth through both challenge and consistency. The Panthers have pursued higher-level routines that push technical boundaries while continuing to refine execution across each event.
“Our guys were confident going in,” Peters said. “We know we belong here, and this weekend showed that, even if it wasn’t our best performance.”
The team competed across all six events—floor exercise, pommel horse, still rings, vault, parallel bars, and high bar—against some of the nation’s most established gymnastics programs.
Greenville’s persistence was especially evident in the final rotation on parallel bars, where the team delivered one of its strongest collective performances of the meet.
“We wanted to finish well,” Peters said. “And our parallel bars group did exactly that. They showed who we are.”

Beyond the team results, Greenville continued to be represented in individual competition. Sophomore Kyler Hinson advanced to compete for the NCAA all-around title after finishing second in the all-around standings during the qualifying round. Hinson’s performance throughout the season has consistently demonstrated both technical excellence and leadership.
In addition to qualifying for the all-around finals, Hinson was recognized during the weekend as MVP of the Year at the national gymnastics banquet. The award honors an athlete who leads through both consistency and high-level performance, making the recognition especially significant for a sophomore competing among the nation’s top collegiate gymnasts.
Junior Jaxon Clapper also continued competition individually, qualifying for finals on both vault and parallel bars. His advancement reflects the growing depth of Greenville’s program and the continued development of athletes capable of competing at the national level.
For Peters, the championship appearance represents more than a ranking. Many of the athletes competing this season were part of the program’s first recruiting classes, helping establish a culture centered on discipline, perseverance, and shared purpose.
“This group helped build the foundation of our program,” Peters said. “To see them compete here, against the best in the country, and hold their own—it means everything.”
In only a few short years, Greenville men’s gymnastics has moved from a new program to a consistent national contender.
Competing on the NCAA stage once again reflects both the commitment of the student athletes and the continued momentum of a program determined to keep growing.
The Panthers may not have advanced as a team this weekend, but their presence among the nation’s best signals something just as meaningful: Greenville University continues to build a program capable of competing at the highest level.
