When Aleigha Taylor ’26 first arrived at Greenville University, she stepped into campus life ready to explore where she belonged. Like many students, she began her journey by saying yes to opportunities that sparked her curiosity.

She joined the marching band, the concert band, and her scholarship group, immersing herself in the rhythm of campus life while building friendships and confidence.

Taylor soon realized Greenville was more than a place to study; it was where her passions, leadership, and calling would take shape.

In her freshman year, Taylor joined Project LEAD (Leaders in Education Advocating for Diversity), a choice that shaped her college experience and future career. Her involvement quickly became leadership. By junior year, she became President, guiding conversations about representation, equity, and educators’ impact on students’ lives.

Her growth extended beyond the classroom. As a student-athlete trainer for the football team, a role she began in her sophomore year, Taylor discovered the power of showing up in everyday moments—on the sidelines, during practices, and on long bus rides to away games.

Some of her favorite memories came from traveling with the team, especially trips to Minnesota, where a stop at the Mall of America became a tradition.

“My favorite trip was in 2024 when I had the opportunity to travel with my younger brother, who was also on the team,” said Taylor. “That experience made it even more special.”

These experiences offered Taylor more than involvement—they brought connection.

One of the most influential relationships during her time at GU was with Dr. Heather Gilmore, her academic advisor, professor, and mentor within Project LEAD. More than offering academic guidance, Dr. Gilmore became a consistent source of encouragement, helping Taylor navigate challenges and celebrate successes.

Their relationship reflects the kind of mentorship that shapes not only academic journeys but also personal growth.

“She has supported me through both my highs and lows and has always made me feel valued and never like a burden. I am incredibly grateful for the impact she has had on my journey,” said Taylor.

Through leadership, mentorship, and campus involvement, she gained the confidence and purpose to pursue education.

Talyor reflected on her time at GU as graduation is nearing:

“After graduation, I plan to pursue a teaching position in the East St. Louis area,” Taylor said. “I am also considering continuing my education by working toward an additional degree or earning an endorsement in secondary education.”

Looking back, Taylor’s story is defined by many small moments—conversations with mentors, leadership opportunities, laughter on bus rides, and the confidence gained from finding her purpose.

As Taylor enters her classroom, she brings lessons from Greenville University: meaningful impact starts in everyday moments, and a calling to serve can inspire students to feel seen, known, and inspired.
