Global Impact Week
Published: April 13, 2021
Greenville College students think globally October 18-22 during the college's fifth annual Global Impact Week (GIW).
GIW is a special emphasis week designed to develop students' worldview by drawing attention to urgent needs around the globe while helping them discover their unique role as Christians to address those needs.
This year, Global Impact Week happens during The Third Lausanne Congress on World Evangelization in Cape Town, South Africa. The Lausanne Congress brings 4,000 leaders from more than 200 countries together to confront the critical issues of our time: world faiths, poverty, HIV/AIDS, persecution, missions, and urbanization are just a few of the topics discussed. Greenville College President Linamen was invited by the Lausanne leadership to join 10 other college presidents in South Africa for the week and because of this, GC has the unique opportunity to serve as a regional host site for the viewing of this conference. Video from the conference is available for viewing in the Krober Room in Armington Center throughout the week.
Dr. David Ross, President of the Graduate Institute of Applied Linguistics in Texas is the guest speaker on campus during the week of events.
Dr. Ross and his wife felt God's calling to the ministry of Bible translation during the early 1980s. After completing the needed training, Dr. Ross and his family moved to Asia where they were involved in a New Testament scripture translation project. Since returning to the U.S. in 1995, Dr. Ross has served as the founding President of the Graduate Institute of Applied Linguistics, in Dallas, TX. The institute is a graduate degree granting institution which helps train students for cross-cultural careers in areas such as Bible translation, literacy, Anthropology and language survey. Dr. Ross has a Ph.D from Lehigh University.
In addition to the Lausanne Congress video feed and guest speaker, there will be 12 mission organizations from across the nation represented on campus hosting a variety of activities for students, faculty and staff, and the community. The mission organizations are:

Global Impact Week is a function of the World Outreach and Missions Office.
Through the development of strategic international partnerships, careful research, student training, faculty sponsorships, and attention to logistical details, the Office of World Outreach and Missions seeks to provide the Greenville College community with quality, interactive opportunities to witness and participate in God's work around the globe. It is our belief that short term mission experiences encourage students to expand their worldview, challenge the limits of their personal contribution to the international landscape, and intorduce them to a future in mission, relief, or developmental work.
The World Outreach and Missions Office exists to create and promote valuable learning and service opportunities around the world; crossing cultures, and raising awareness about global issues.
