At Greenville University, students are encouraged to grow academically, deepen their spiritual lives, and serve others. Ella Hudspath, a double major in worship arts and theology, embodies this mission.

GOD’S DIRECTION TO GREENVILLE

Ella’s decision to come to Greenville was not always clear. “I wasn’t looking into ministry at all,” she admits. “It wasn’t on my radar. But right before my senior year of high school, God grabbed my attention and said, ‘Occupational therapy? Not it.’”

GREENVILLE OPENS OPPORTUNITY

This divine redirection led her to Greenville, a school she had never heard of before. However, after visiting campus and participating in the Women in Leadership Scholarship program, Ella knew Greenville was where she belonged.

“I fell in love with the people and the community here,” she says, “It was set apart from any other school I had toured.”

Greenville University stands out not just for its academics but also for its dedication to creating servant leaders who live out their faith. One program that has impacted Ella is Vespers, a completely student-led ministry on campus.

STEPPING INTO LEADERSHIP ROLES

Ella serves as a leader on this team, a role she didn’t anticipate stepping into so early in her college career. She recalls the blessing of being asked to speak at Vespers, a turning point where she shared her testimony and connected with other students in powerful ways.

Ella has held numerous leadership roles on campus, from serving on the Pursuit team to leading worship.

“It’s been a place where I’ve grown in my faith, had hard conversations, and met lifelong friends,” she reflects. “Greenville is a home for me. It’s a place where I’ve been uncomfortable in the best ways, which has led to growth.”

Her professors have seen this growth firsthand. Professor Bob Munshaw, who taught Ella in several classes, says, “Ella is thoughtful, curious, and focused. More importantly, it’s clear that she desires to use her mind and gifts to serve God and others.”

Paul Sunderland, the worship arts program director and chair of the music and digital media departments, echoes this sentiment, adding, “Ella is a fantastic student with talent and ability, but what stands out is her hunger to learn and grow. She carries a beautiful balance of confidence and humility and is a highly capable leader and influencer.”

EXCITED FOR THE FUTURE

As Ella continues her journey at Greenville, she remains open to wherever God might lead her. Whether in pastoral discipleship or worship ministry, she knows Greenville University equips her to serve others and follow God’s calling.

“It’s been a blessing,” Ella says, reflecting on the opportunities and financial support she’s received. “Without the scholarship money, I wouldn’t be here. Greenville has changed my life, and I couldn’t imagine myself anywhere else.”

Through the support of faculty, community, and scholarships, Greenville University continues to foster an environment where students like Ella can grow spiritually, academically, and as servant leaders.
