For Nicole Crites, a 2008 graduate of Greenville University with a double major in accounting and business management, the foundation laid by her alma mater continues to shape her life and career. Now a finance director, she credits her time at GU for preparing her to navigate the professional world with integrity, faith, and purpose.

A PATH TO GREENVILLE

Nicole first learned about Greenville University through a high school teacher who was also an alumna. Attending Crosspoint Christian School in Villa Ridge, Missouri, she had always valued a Christ-centered education, making GU a natural choice. However, the scholarships she received solidified her decision to enroll.

“The financial support I received made the choice easier,” she shared. “I want to ensure the cost never discourages someone from pursuing a Christian education.”

Reflecting on her time at GU, Nicole emphasizes how well the university’s mission—empowering students for lives of character and service through a Christ-centered education—resonates with her.

“I felt incredibly prepared for both my career and my role as a Christian in the secular world,” she said. “Having a strong educational foundation grounded in faith helped me view my work and life through a Christian lens.”

A memorable GU experience for her included a class trip to Chicago, where she visited various diverse religious institutions and communities, fostering a deeper understanding of different faiths and cultures. “It was eye-opening,” she recalled. It reinforced the importance of listening and seeking understanding in a world that can be so divisive.”

Another defining moment came during her Jerusalem trip through studies in Israel, where she walked on the same historic stones Jesus walked on. "It was life-changing," she said. It wasn't just about sightseeing; it was a profoundly educational and spiritual experience.

GIVING BACK

Now, as a dedicated donor to Greenville University, Nicole supports both the general fund (Greenville University Fund) and the Almira Circle Fund for women in leadership. Her passion for giving stems from her belief in the university’s mission and her firsthand experience of the benefits of donor support.

“Education is critical in shaping future generations,” she explained. “Because Greenville did that for me, I want to continue investing in its growth. We’re all part of the same society, and the more we can equip future leaders with a Christ-centered education, the better.”

She has also been actively involved in alumni events, participating in scholarship interviews and mentoring students. “Seeing how Greenville is impacting current students is rewarding,” she said. “I had the opportunity to mentor a student two years ago, and hearing their experiences reaffirmed why I continue to support GU.”

THE FUTURE OF GREENVILLE UNIVERSITY

When asked how she believes GU can continue to engage donors and build a stronger community, Nicole emphasized the importance of alumni involvement. She is one of the regional alumni ambassadors who help facilitate connections between GU and alumni in their region.

"As part of the GU Alumni Ambassador program, I think we can do more outreach, especially outside Greenville," she suggested. Nicole mentioned that the event spread awareness and connected alumni at a recent alumni gathering in St. Louis.

As Greenville University continues to grow and evolve, one thing remains clear—its alumni, like Nicole Crites, are committed to ensuring that its legacy of Christ-centered education thrives for generations to come. Through her generosity and involvement, she exemplifies the university’s mission, proving that the impact of a Greenville education extends far beyond graduation.
