Students Take the Urban Plunge

Published: April 13, 2021

Students take the plunge: On Friday, November 12, Greenville College students will leave campus to participate in one of the college's most highly anticipated events of the semester; Urban Plunge. The St. Louis weekend trip is designed to introduce students to the needs and climate of the inner-city through an intentional program of education, observance, service and interaction with community members.

The World Outreach and Missions Department partners with Restore St. Louis, an organization under the oversight of New City Fellowship, to host Urban Plunge. Restore St. Louis strives to promote a network of Christian ministries that desire to show God's love to the poor, widows, orphans, immigrants and refugees of St. Louis. During the weekend trip, GC students will learn some of the history of St. Louis and the people who live there today. Students will also invest in the community by painting, visiting the elderly, and working on projects designed to bring restoration to the area.

This fall marks the seventh year Greenville students have participated in the Urban Plunge. The experience working in the inner-city and interacting with individuals that live there has always provided students the opportunity to experience the kind of character growth and development Greenville College values most.
