Scholarship Day offers chance for potential students to max out scholarship awards
Published: October 25, 2021
Greenville University invites potential students to campus for Scholarship Day, an opportunity to earn up to a full tuition scholarship and the chance to get to know campus before their fall 2022 semester.
One hundred percent of traditional undergraduates at GU receive institutional financial aid, and on November 19, students who attend Scholarship Day could earn one of the multiple full-tuition scholarships available. GUs average financial aid package is $22,000 and all students who attend Scholarship Day are guaranteed to come away with a sizeable scholarship offer.
New this year, students have the opportunity to come to campus the day before and spend the night in the residence halls. They will also get to know campus by having dinner with current students, and attending the Contemporary Music Center concert tour event and Vespers, GUs student-led worship service.
Check-in for Scholarship Day begins at 8:30 am on Friday, November 19, at the Crum Recreation Center on campus. Students will be briefed on the GU scholarships as well as the interview process they will experience that day. Also that day, scholarship auditions will be held for all music ensembles.
We are excited about our unique interview process that focuses on learning about each students individual character and what they can contribute to the campus community, says Elizabeth Kirby, Director of Admissions at GU. Interviews will be conducted in small groups so students are able to meet potential friends, roommates, and classmates throughout the day.
GU junior Chad Stearns, a biology student, received the McAllaster Scholarship. His advice for students participating in Scholarship Day interviews is to be yourself.
I could tell that the faculty were really interested in getting to know me personally, on a deeper level, which was relaxing and comforting to me because it could have been a very potentially stressful day, but it seemed like they really aimed at getting to know us and making sure we had a good time and good experience while we were there.
Students are awarded scholarships for character and service, as Women in Leadership, for diversity and care for diverse issues, and for academic pursuit of excellence.
At Greenville University, we believe students are far more than a test score, says Suzanne Allison Davis, GU president. Our mission is to empower students for lives of character and service into the world. We do that not only through a Christ-centered education, but through scholarship programming that instills character and leadership.
After scholarship interviews, there will be lunch, a major and minors fair, campus tours, and more. Per state mandates, everyone attending Scholarship Day will be required to wear masks indoors.
Parents and guardians are encouraged to accompany students to Scholarship Day. GU faculty and staff have programming planned for them while the students are participating in the interview process.
Students must apply and gain acceptance to GU by November 5, 2021, to be invited to participate in scholarship day. Students are also encouraged to file their Free Application for Federal Student Aid prior to scholarship day.
